Terms of Use

What this is

A free, self-paced series of short video lessons on global health research, made by Eric Green and drawn from the textbook Global Health Research in Practice. You watch short videos, answer questions that are not graded, and work through exercises on your own.

What this is not

It is not a Duke University course, and it carries no academic credit. Finishing it does not earn a Duke badge or certificate. A completion record, if we offer one, says only that you finished the series.

Enrolling here gives you no access to any Duke course, and nothing you do here counts toward one.

Your account

You sign in with your email address and a link we send you. There is no password. Keep access to your email account, because anyone who can read your email can sign in as you.

You are responsible for what happens under your account. Tell us if you think someone else is using it. One account per person, please.

Using the material

The videos, slides, transcripts and written material stay ours, or their original authors'. You may watch them, read them, and use what you learn however you like, including at work.

You may not republish the material as your own, sell it, or present it as a course you are offering. Linking to it is welcome.

Some material we link to belongs to other people. Their terms apply to their material, not ours.

Fair use of the service

Do not try to break the service, get into other people's accounts, scrape it wholesale, or use it to send anything unlawful or abusive. We can close an account that does.

Feedback you give us

If you rate a lesson or write a comment, we use it to improve the course. We will only show your comment to other people if you tick the box that asks us to, and you can withdraw that permission at any time by writing to us.

AI features

Some exercises use an automated coach that responds to what you write. It is software, not a person, and it is sometimes wrong. Nothing it says is professional, medical, legal or research advice. Do not put confidential information, patient data or personal health information into it.

No guarantees

We offer this free and as it is. We do not promise it will always be available, that the material is free of error, or that it fits any particular purpose. We may change lessons, add them, or take them away.

Research methods are a field of judgement. Nothing here is advice about a specific study, and decisions you make about your own work are yours.

Closing your account

You can ask us to delete your account and your data at any time, and we will. See the privacy policy for what that reaches.

We may close accounts that break these terms, and we may end the service. If we end it, we will say so first.

Changes

If we change these terms in a way that matters, we will tell you by email and give you the chance to close your account instead of accepting.
